Around 2012, I was at Japan Cultural Center Library in Beijing (on the third floor of the Guomao SK Tower) when I stumbled upon the first photography book I had ever seen—Tokyo Nobody by the Japanese photographer Masataka Nakano. It was a mind-blowing discovery. Until then, everything I knew about photography came from digital images on a computer screen, and I have never imagined that printed photos could be so captivating. From that moment, I started exploring Japanese photographers—from the renowned Daido Moriyama and Nobuyoshi Araki to those who aren’t as well known. Their work left me profoundly moved. Driven by this fascination, I wanted to share the visions I had encountered with more people, which led me to create this website.
Due to work commitments, even though I first set it up in 2015, I was never able to manage the site properly. But when I look back at the books I’ve collected over the past ten years, I’m still awestruck, and my desire to continue on this journey remains as strong as ever.
